BEHIND THE DESIGN

The 'Cigarette' tee, part of the Sweet Caporal Collection, draws inspiration from an original 1907 Sweet Caporal newspaper advertisement. The design reimagines the bold, blocky typography from the ad and incorporates an image of a hand-rolled cigarette, perfectly encapsulating the unique look of early 20th-century print advertising.

SWEET CAPORAL

Our first collection is inspired by Sweet Caporal Cigarettes, a 19th-century tobacco brand founded by Abbot Kinney. After becoming one of the top U.S. cigarette brands, Kinney used his success to develop Venice, CA in 1905.

The collection combines vintage advertising, bold typography, and unique cultural references. Staying true to Off Abbot’s mission of blending Venice’s rich past with modern streetwear, the pieces subtly nod to Kinney’s lasting impact on the city.
