BEHIND THE DESIGN
The 'Kinney Bros' hat, part of the Sweet Caporal Collection, is inspired by a cigarette pack card insert from the 1889 Naval Vessels of the World series by Sweet Caporal. This particular card, featuring the USS Frigate Chicago, included detailed text on the back about the various vessels in the series. The design of the hat draws specifically from the text at the bottom, referencing the successor information for Kinney Bros.

SWEET CAPORAL
Our first collection is inspired by Sweet Caporal Cigarettes, a 19th-century tobacco brand founded by Abbot Kinney. After becoming one of the top U.S. cigarette brands, Kinney used his success to develop Venice, CA in 1905.
The collection combines vintage advertising, bold typography, and unique cultural references. Staying true to Off Abbot’s mission of blending Venice’s rich past with modern streetwear, the pieces subtly nod to Kinney’s lasting impact on the city.
