BEHIND THE DESIGN
The 'Venice Standard' hat, part of the Sweet Caporal Collection, takes inspiration from the design & text on an 1888 Sweet Caporal poster advertising their harlequin insert playing cards. These collectible cards, which featured designs like playing cards and baseball cards, were included in cigarette packs and became popular in the late 19th century.

SWEET CAPORAL
Our first collection is inspired by Sweet Caporal Cigarettes, a 19th-century tobacco brand founded by Abbot Kinney. After becoming one of the top U.S. cigarette brands, Kinney used his success to develop Venice, CA in 1905.
The collection combines vintage advertising, bold typography, and unique cultural references. Staying true to Off Abbot’s mission of blending Venice’s rich past with modern streetwear, the pieces subtly nod to Kinney’s lasting impact on the city.
